“The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.”

Jean-Jacques Rousseau

What is expressive arts?

“The expressive arts combine the visual arts, movement, drama, music, writing and other creative processes to foster deep personal growth and community development.” - IEATA (International Expressive Arts Therapy Association)

With expressive arts we use different creative outlets for healing, personal growth or self-discovery. Usually each process is intermodal, meaning that several modalities are used in each session. For example, I may use visual arts & writing in one session and then writing and movement in another. This helps to deepen the practice & further connect the mind & body.

Classes & individual sessions are offered in a nonjudgmental space and you are the only one who can decide what your artwork or writing means for you.

While this work is often times therapeutic by nature, what I offer is not therapy.

I offer expressive arts workshops and 1+1 sessions geared towards the following:

  • self-discovery

  • stress relief & relaxation

  • personal development

  • having fun!

No previous art experience is required!

Group classes and/or workshops are a great way to meet new people, try something new and/or strengthen bonds between an existing group.

Classes can be quiet and meditative or fun and relaxing. The atmosphere is really up to you, as I tailor things to the experience you are looking to have.

Individual sessions are offered virtually.

Group classes are offered in person, virtually and/or at the venue of your choice (yoga studio, conference, someone’s home etc.)

Examples of Expressive Arts Practices

Silk painting

Silk painting is a beautiful process, using silk, resist and silk dyes. Choose for each person to paint their own individual piece or create a larger group painting to hang up in your space.

Mandala making

The word "mandala" is a Sanskrit word meaning circle and is used throughout many societies as a form of meditation. As a ritual, Buddhists often create sand mandalas to practice impermanence. The mandala as a whole is thought to represent the Universe, wholeness, unity & oneness and helps to restore balance to the creator and those who view it. The psychologist Carl Jung, used the mandala as a tool to explore the unconscious mind and believed that mandalas are a reflection of the creator's inner world.
